The Peacemaker revolver, also known as the Single Action Army (SAA), was designed by Samuel Colt in 1873 and was manufactured with different barrel lengths: the short version, 4.75 inches, the longer, 5.5 and 7.5 inches, or the massive "Buntline Special", 12 inches.

This weapon was initially used by the US military. However, in a few years most American citizens have had one of these revolvers. The fact that it used ammunition of the same caliber as the Winchester M1873 rifle helped its popularization as a weapon in the American Old West in the late 19th century.

Curiously, this revolver received numerous nicknames. In addition to the aforementioned Peacemaker, it is also known as Frontier or Widowmaker, referring to the ease with which this revolver leaves widows to the wives of the time.

The film industry mythologized the "Peacemaker" in the westerns of the 40s and 50s, and collaborated with big screen stars such as John Wayne or Gary Cooper. Roosevelt also had one engraved with his initials and George S. Patton used two.
