This pistol was manufactured in England by express order of George Washington (1732-1799), Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army of the Revolutionary Forces in the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) and the first President of the United States of America (1789-1797).

The American War of Independence was a long conflict, which pitted the thirteen British colonies in North America against the Kingdom of Great Britain for eight and a half years, ending with the British defeat at the Battle of Yorktown and the signing of the Treaty of Paris. Considering this scenario, the Americans were completely successful in choosing their commander in chief, George Washington, because by his temperament and abilities he was the ideal man for this type of campaign.
