Popularly known as the Luger, it is a semi-automatic pistol that uses an internal slide, operated by an articulated arm, in contrast to the external slide common in almost all other semi-automatic pistols.
Designed by Georg Luger in 1898 and produced by the German arms factory Deutsche Waffenund Munitionsfabriken (DWM) in 1900.
Although the first models were produced in the 7.65x21 Parabellum caliber, the 1908 model is famous for being the pistol for which the 9x19 Parabellum cartridge was developed. The name Parabellum derives from an ancient Latin saying "Su vis pacem, para bellum" ("If you want peace, prepare for war").
The Parabellum Luger pistol became very popular due to its use by Germany during the first and second world wars and was a much sought after pistol by soldiers throughout the twentieth century.
